Bakery for dogs opens in Paris (True Story)

dob_conyers.jpgBakery for dogs opens in Paris (True Story)
An award-winning pastry chef has opened a bakery that caters only for dogs in Paris. Mon Bon Chien sells bacon biscuits in the shape of a cat and bone-shaped cookies made of foie gras, reports the BBC.

The owner is Harriet Sternstein who moved to Paris from the US with her dog Sophie-Marie. Sophie-Marie provided the inspiration for the new business for her owner, who decided the best way to make a living was to combine her biggest enthusiasms - pastries and pets.

‘Everything is made in the back of the boutique, ’said Ms Sternstein, ‘Every day, I make 200 to 300 biscuits and special orders are taken on a daily basis.

‘The Parisians come to the bakery and the first time they think it’s very funny and they look at it, and buy the ones that they think are the cutest. Then the dogs come back and choose which flavours they like the best.

‘I change flavours, based on what’s going on. Source: doggie stories on the web

Caring for your Pets

_44477977_dogs2031.jpgAnimals have been on earth way before man. However, man developed the art of taming beasts and used them for his daily needs and chores. Farmers used cattle and oxen. Hunters used horses, camel, donkeys etc. Animals like cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and chickens were bred as a source of food.

Farmers used cattle in their day to day chores and over time a relationship between man and animals were formed. A bond was developed between the animals and humans. These animals became more than just beasts of burden.

As time progressed, animals have become more than just ‘animals’, they became companions of mankind. Love and passion between a man and animal developed. The species that became a common part of some humans were cats and dogs.

Cats and dogs were breed widely to fulfill mankind needs of companionship from animals. In the present day, the roles of companion animal are far beyond that of fulfilling daily chores. Companion animal or pets have far surpassed their core purpose of existence. In the day to day life, a man or woman faces many challenges and stress at work, home and in the social community. Pets help to overcome these stresses. The role of pets in present day community is only felt by those who have been able to relate to them as one.

Pets, with their god given sixth sense are able to feel the emotions of their owners. They are able to understand anger, sadness, happiness and other emotions of man. However, this is only possible if owners are able to relate to them.

Animal is the only being on this earth that is multi-linguistic. They learn the language from their owners. Pets imported from Russia and other parts of the world, are able to understand the dialect of their owners, within days. It is sad that pets cannot talk back when you talk to them.

As much as pets serve us in our daily feelings, their health is also of utmost importance. Here’s a brief highlight of some important requirement of owning a pet:

Doggie tales and Dog News

Dog-eat-dog world TX Reveille, the official mascot of university life at the Texas A&M University, has her own credit card; dines occasionally on steak and other delicacies; and her bark is always taken for the command: ‘class dismissed’; yet, it’s still a dog’s life, with almost every minute of her day dedicated to being a ‘meet and greet mascot.

‘breeder charged’ ‘animal abuse’ [b]
Breeder was trying to develop superior dog breeds AK ‘Two breeders who acquired dogs from an Alaska collie breeder now charged with animal abuse says the breeder has devoted years to developing genetically superior dogs and that she cares deeply about their health…’ The breeder’s cargo load was seized when a dead dog and starving dogs near death were discovered in her ‘care.’ Breeder was trying to develop superior dog breeds [b] [KTVA] (What is it with some breeders? How is it that the worst kind of animal abuse is often at the hands of breeders… They end up collecting a zillion animals and then allow them to starve and suffer horendous conditions… is this a similar sickness to ‘cat collectors’ ? )

Stop your dog from peeing inside the house?

0041-0702-2713-1422_tn.jpg I know the first thing we want to teach our doggies when we bring them home is to potty-train them. To teach them not to pee inside the house and one thing I will tell you some doggies learn quicker then others and one thing you must have is patience and of course Love.. If the dog is an inside dog be sure to place alot of newspapers in certain corners of the house and keep an eye on your dog after he has drunk water wait a few minutes then take him to the newspapers and say the words “Potty” and place him on top of the newspapers and make sure he stays there and just keep repeating the words ” Potty” “potty” until finally he will go . Keep doing this for awhile and he will get the hint and then he will go himself on top of the papers. He will not go anywhere else but the newspapers. Unless its to go outside because you are also going to teach him and show him how to go and pee outside. To show your dog something Over and Over is the Key to learning,, Repeat your training technques over and over until he finally gets it… 1.) Figure out a reward when the dog goes outside. Even if its playing with a toy or anything. Find something the dog loves. It doesn’t have to be a treat.
2.) Take some “used” newspaper and bury it below a bit of dirt so the dog will find its own scent while walking.
3.) NEVER and I mean NEVER bring a dog back to the scene of an accident and punish it. You can only do some sort of punishment while in the act and immediately take them outside to finish and then reward them. The dog doesn’t know if your are upset at the fact that they are doing it or just where they are doing it. So they will start to hide and leave you surprises behind the couch, in a weird corner or even in your shoes. Just so you don’t see them. But make sure to praise that they do it outside.
4.) Make a game of bringing the leash. I have trained my dogs to bring me the leash on command and they even bring it to tell me they want to go out.
5.) Take them out constantly even if you don’t think they need to go.
6.) Don’t forget … Reward … Reward … Reward. Any kind of praise is welcomed by the dog and will pay off.

These are some of my best tricks. Usually takes about two to three weeks and your dog will be Potty trained.. Any Dog Owners wish to share how they stopped their dog from Peeing inside the house?? Any comments are most welcomed!

The History of Mother’s Day

Published by lilyruth under Uncategorized Edit This

2-1.pngAncient Celebrations of Mother’s day
Contrary to the popular belief that Mother’s day was conceived and tuned I the Hallmark’s office, the occasion is celebrated from long back in Greece as a part of spring festival to Rhea, the mother of many deities and to Cybele, the Great Mother of Gods in Rome. Even the Christians celebrated this occasion on the fourth Sunday in Lent in honor of Mother Mary, Christ’s mother. In England, this Sunday was dedicated to all the mother’s and named as Mothering Sunday.

Beginning of Modern Mother Day’s Celebrations
The modern mother day celebrations started about 150 years ago in United States when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker organized an event to drew people’s attention towards poor health conditions in her community. According to her, this event could be addressed and understood in the best manner by a mother. That is why she also named it as ‘Mother’s Work Day’. This occasion can be quoted as a beginning of mother’s day celebration,

After 15 years of the ‘Mother’s Work Day’, Julia Ward Howe, the lyricist of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, who was also a pacifist and suffragist, started the mother’s day celebration for encouraging mothers to rally for peace, since she thought that no one else can bore the loss of human life more harshly than them. Until these celebrations, mother’s day was meant of encouraging mothers to take up socially important charges in order to bring an emotional and attitudinal shift in the society.

Anna Jarvis attempt for official Mother’s Day Celebrations
In 1905, when Anna Jarvis, the founder of the ‘Mother’s Work Day’ expired, her daughter also named Anna began a campaign to honor the dream of her mother to celebrate a day to honor mothers. She worked on the lines of a poem that her mother made her remember as a child. The poem were lined ‘I hope and pray that someone, sometime, will found a memorial mother’s day. There are many days for men, but none for mothers.” Anna began to lobby prominent businesspersons like John Wannamaker, and politicians like Presidents Taft and Roosevelt to support her campaign. She even organized a celebration at the West Virginia church in 1908 as mother’s day festival. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson finally signed a bill declaring the second Sunday of May, as ‘Mother’s Day’ a national holiday.

Commercialization of Mother’s Day Occasion
For first few years, mother’s day was celebrated as a sacred occasion when people went to church and wrote letter’s to their mothers. However, as the times changed, a trend of cards, presents, and flowers came in fashion. The increasing commercialization of the occasion enraged the founder of the day, Anna Jarvis. She even filed a lawsuit to stop the celebration of this occasion on the pretext that the feelings of this occasion are being sacrificed at the expense of commercial benefits of few. However, until present date the day remains to be one of the most popular day of celebration all over the world. Source : The web

How to stop dog jumping on you or furniture

537267152_668ee13e75.jpgHow to stop dog jumping
Often starting during puppyhood, dog jumping can be a serious behavior problem. It seems innocent while your dog is young, but as he grows it can become extremely irritating. This is especially true if he’s from a larger breed, although toy dogs are no exception. If your dog jumps on you, he’ll definitely jump on other people. This can create an uncomfortable atmosphere for your guests. Take the time to train your dog not to jump up and you’ll be one step closer to a well-mannered companion.

Jumping on you
If your dog jumps on you every time he gets excited or greets you, there are a couple of ways to train him to adopt an alternative behavior.

Place your foot on his leash
This simple leash technique should help to stop dog jumping. Whenever your dog looks like he wants to jump up, place your foot on the leash. Leave enough slack to keep him from noticing your foot is on the leash but not enough to let him jump all the way up. When he tries to jump, say “Off!”. If your foot is placed properly, the leash will automatically correct your dog. Tell him to sit and gently praise him when he does. Eventually, your dog will learn that jumping up causes an unpleasant tug on his neck while sitting leads to your affection. Remember to remove the leash when your dog can’t be supervised.

Hold his paws when he jumps up
When your dog jumps on you, grasp his paws and hold them firmly in place. Wait until he gets uncomfortable and starts to struggle, then let go and say “Off!”. Tell him to sit and give him praise if he does. Repeat this process every time your dog jumps up.

Jumping on guests
In order to stop your dog from jumping on visitors, practice the techniques described above before you introduce him to people. Once he no longer jumps on you, your guests should be safe as well. However, if this doesn’t solve the problem, you can train an alternative behavior with the help of a friend or family member.

Have your dog sit as a friend approaches
Have your visitor approach your dog instead of allowing your dog to go to the person. If he jumps up to greet them, have the person go away. If he sits, then have the guest reward him with a treat. After a few rounds your dog should figure out that sitting allows him to greet the guest. Be sure to practice regularly with different people to make the behavior a habit.

Jumping on furniture
If you prefer to keep your dog off of your furniture, the following two-step process should do the trick.

Step 1: Provide a comfortable alternative
Put a cozy dog bed in your dog’s favorite area of the house. The more comfortable the bed, the less enticing your furniture will appear. In some cases, this will solve the problem by itself. If it doesn’t, then go on to step two.

Step 2: Train an alternative behavior
If you’ve given your dog a bed of his own but he still refuses to stop jumping on the furniture, train him to retrieve an oject or go to a target area. Whenever you see him jump on your furniture, say “Off!” then issue the retrieval or target command. Gently praise him once he’s finished his task. If you see your dog resting in his bed of his own free will, be sure to give him some praise. You want to create a good association

Idol’ stage rocked by finalists, mishaps

Published by lilyruth under Uncategorized Edit This

simpsonscream.jpgTuesday, May 5, 2009
NEW YORK - The “American Idol” finalists channeled their inner rock stars Tuesday. The result? Some shined, some stumbled.

And some things just tumbled.

The remaining four singers were paired up to perform duets along with their solos on the rock-themed show. But before the live telecast even began, they suffered a setback of sorts when a pair of mishaps - including a stage manager’s injury and the collapse of one of “Idol” towers flanking the stage - slashed the finalists’ chance to have a proper run-through.

Fox publicist Jill Hudson referred inquiries to on-air comments by host Ryan Seacrest, who opened the show by saying: “We have had an unconventional day … unfortunately we had an accident earlier here on our stage, but it didn’t end there.”

Seacrest then pointed out the askew tower, saying that immediately after the “accident,” the structure “started to collapse, just a few moments before dress rehearsal. Glass was popping everywhere.”

It wasn’t immediately clear if the tower collapse had anything to do with the crew member’s injury. Fox didn’t name the crew member, but said she had a mishap during rehearsal “and was immediately taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.”

Seacrest again revealed a little more on his Twitter page, saying that the stage manager, who he referred to only as “Debbie,” fell during rehearsal and was “doing much better.” Fox didn’t immediately respond to requests for further details.

One thing that didn’t fall down Tuesday: the pairing of Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta (who copped to tapping Lambert’s hairstylist for her strikingly improved rocker ‘do).

“In the battle of the duets, you win the show tonight,” Simon Cowell declared after the duo’s electric rendition of the Foghat classic “Slow Ride.”

Cowell said Lambert might have given his 17-year-old duet partner a chance to stay in the competition. The 27-year-old theater actor hugged Iraheta, saying: “This is like my little sister, kinda.”

Danny Gokey and Kris Allen performed “Renegade” by Styx. Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi enjoyed their harmonizing; Cowell, judging them individually, said Gokey bested Allen, who seemed overshadowed by the song.

Cowell saved harsher jabs for Allen’s solo performance. The Arkansas heartthrob sang the Beatles’ “Come Together,” and Cowell compared his cover to “eating ice for lunch.” Meaning, it leaves “you with nothing to remember afterward,” he said.

Allen - who’s more Jason Mraz than Axl Rose - appears much more at home playing acoustic guitar on the “Idol” stage than he did jamming with guest mentor Slash at the Roxy in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Lambert one-upped his competitors yet again. DioGuardi crowned Lambert a “rock god” following his rousing rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” that showed off his signature banshee howl.

“The problem is, nobody can top that now,” Cowell said.

The judges mostly agreed that Iraheta should have picked another song besides Janice Joplin’s “Cry Baby.” The singing prodigy explained that another Joplin classic, “Piece of My Heart,” had been done before and she was really feeling “Cry Baby.”

A goofy grin on her face, Iraheta playfully needled Cowell: “You’re always saying I don’t talk enough, so maybe I should just talk a lot!”

Gokey, 28, of Milwaukee, also defended his performance. He stepped out of his soft pop-soul comfort zone to perform “Dream On” by Aerosmith. While Jackson gave his rendition an “A-plus for valiant effort,” Cowell said Gokey’s final note “was like watching a horror movie.”

“I don’t think it was as bad as they said it was,” Gokey said before halfheartedly conceding: “I’ll try better next time.”

Gokey and the rest of the finalists will discover their fate on Wednesday’s results show, and the two-part finale is just two weeks away.
